G. Johnson Straight Razor

This George Johnson straight razor has a square point half hollow 5/8 blade. The shank is clearly marked with the G. Johnson (George Johnson, c.1758- 1818) company name and the seven stars and hammer logo.
The shank markings and current name of the company (in 1816 they began referring to themselves as G. Johnson & Son and later as George Johnson & Co.) would indicate that this straight razor was made in the early 1800s in Sheffield, England, making it over 200 years old. This is, indeed, a very rare straight razor.
The scales are in great structural condition and seem to the the original horn scales. The razor has been sanded, buffed, polished, honed, and stropped. It is shave ready with no need to strop before your initial use.
I've included a pre-restoration photo of the razor, this is no indication of what the razor currently looks like!
Product detail
Depending on the initial condition of the razors, they will go through a sanding progression starting at 320 grit and ending on 1200 grit paper. They are then buffed on a low speed buffer with black, green, and then white buffing compound. After buffing, they are hand polished with metal polish.
The bevel is set on a 1k Naniwa stone and honed on a progression of 3k, 5k, 8k, and then the edge is polished on a 12k stone. After honing, I then do about 10 passes on a linen strop and then 60 on leather. All of the razors are then shave tested to insure that they will give a smooth and satisfying shave. There is no need to strop before your initial shave.
After the razor is shave ready, it is disinfected and lightly oiled. Please make sure to lightly wipe of any oil before use.

Authorization: If your return is approved, we will send you a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number and shipping instructions.
Shipping: You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. We recommend using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance.
Refunds
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. If you are approved, your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within [5-10] business days.
